Today’s St. Louis Post Dispatch included this wonderfully written article by Jeffrey Tomich about the Prairie State Campus coal energy plant being built in Washington County, Illinois. It’s a great, in depth review of the opportunities and challenges associated with the nation’s newest coal-burning power plant.

It showcases the concept that energy development of all kinds equals economic development, but is also talks about the benefits of the technological advances in making the plant one of the cleanest in the country.

I take umbrage at the quote in the article from Kathy Andria, director of the American Bottom Conservancy saying the plant is being built with early 20th century technology. That is innacurate at best, ignorant at
worst. You may or may not like coal as a resource for our electricity needs — I can respect that. But the advancements in technology in our coal plants is nothing less than revolutionary as compared to only 30 years ago.
