Power Plant

  • Prairie State Energy Campus consists of two supercritical units with a nominal net output capacity of 800 MW each. Unit 1 of the power plant is scheduled to go on line in the fourth quarter of 2011, with Unit 2 scheduled for the third quarter of 2012.
  • The plant design incorporates state-of-the-art emissions control technologies that make it one of the cleanest coal-fired power plants in the county. Click here for an interactive animated tour of Prairie State technologies.
  • The power plant will consume approximately 6.5 million tons of indigenous coal per year from the adjacent mine.
