Food & Toy Drive

Prairie State’s 2nd Annual Food & Toy Drive
December 2009

Prairie State Energy Campus holds an annual Food & Toy Drive to support local communities in Southern Illinois.  Prairie State works with local community organizations and towns throughout the area to provide food and toys to those in need before the holidays.

Prairie State collected over 6 tons of food, more than 2,000 toys and 15 bicycles this year.  Donations allowed Prairie State to deliver food and toys to the Bond, Clinton, Marion and Washington Counties (BCWM) Community Center in Nashville and the towns of Coulterville, Okawville, Fayetteville, New Athens, Marissa, Sparta, Steeleville, Tilden and Wayne City. Contributions also enabled Prairie State to buy specific toys and clothes for 81 children or 35 “adopted” families.  Please be sure to scroll down to the end of the page to see photos from the drive.

“The success of our food and toy drive is a testament to the wonderful employees here at Prairie State, employees who come from the communities surrounding the campus,” said Prairie State President and CEO Peter DeQuattro. “On behalf of Prairie State, we strongly believe it is important to give back to the communities that have been so welcoming to this project.”

In December 2008, generous donations allowed Prairie State to collect over 4,000 pounds or two tons of food, 2,000 toys and clothing for its 1st Annual Food & Toy Drive.  The food, toys and clothing were delivered to the following local communities in 2008:  BCMW and the towns of Fayetteville, Marissa, New Athens, Okawville, Sparta, Tilden and Wayne City and 25 “adopted” families (14 from the BCMW organization).
